I scheduled an appointment for 3:30 yesterday for a reason. If they don’t call soon and say that my car is ready and fixed, I’m demanding a loaner car and a discount.

Hmm...I know some places in Maryland you can take your car to at 8am and they won’t touch it till 430pm. Then charge you 6 hours of labor for an hour task. Totally normal.

Did you sleep there last night? If so, what car has the most restful seats?

Shops get busy. Whenever I have a shop doing work it takes at least a week. Did they tell you it’d be ready by a certain time?

Dealer didn't give you a loaner for work that requires your car being in overnight? Find a new dealership dude. My local dealer tried to pull that on me, so now I drive an extra 20 minutes to a different BMW dealer that happily gives me a loaner (and a BMWCCA discount without me even mentioning it).

But do you at least give them a heads up that it’ll be a few days before they can get to it?

They told me only after I called that they wouldn’t get to it at all today. I’m now waiting for enterprise to get me a car.

Welcome to the world of mechanicings. Shit happens. It can’t be helped. Just remember the service advisor or technician can’t really do shit about it either. Don’t be harsh on them. Don’t be that guy.

Oh, boy. Sounds like a dealership. Whatever you do stay polite. Remember, they have you car and they can do all sorts of things (or NOT do certain things) to it if you piss them off. Even if they’re above such fuckery (and if it’s a reasonably good dealership than they will be) they’re still more likely to help if you’re nice. Just remember it’s very likely their hands are tied, they’re backed up, or they’re out of loaners.

My dealer offers me a loaner if it’s more than 2 hours. I've never had to leave it overnight so I usually just hang out, but I was certainly shocked at the offer!

Probably a moot point, but I think dropping off your car in the morning gives you a better chance of having it done by EOD.

When I was young and dumb I owned a Ford. The door needed to be replaced. 2 weeks later, still not fixed, I saw someone from the dealer driving it picking up parts. I followed them back to the dealer and then screamed at them for 15 mins.
Still don’t like Ford.

I don’t have a choice but to ask for rentals as soon as I get in the door. The mechanics I go to are good, but like any human I know there’s things they don’t like doing (like working on old cars, I can’t blame them). Well one of these days I’ll finally get a newer car & they’ll celebrate when I only have to come in for oil changes. :P
